Young Australia Shipwreck

When Wrecked: 31 May 1872

Location: Southern

Wooden ship of 1020 tons. Sailing from Brisbane with passengers and a full cargo, she cleared Moreton Bay when a flat calm occured. Without steerage-way, she drifted with the southerly current and swell until she stranded on the beach at North Point on Moreton Island. All passengers and crew were safely landed but the vessel broke up quickly and was a total loss.
