MAAQ is committed to setting an ethical standard regarding the non-disturbance of maritime archaeological sites.

The Maritime Archaeological Association of Queensland, Inc (MAAQ) was established in July 1982 by an interested group, including Ron Coleman, Curator of The Maritime Archaeology Section at the Queensland Museum; Linton Holroyd, Frank Curtin and Jack Tehan of Underwater Research Group of Queensland; Rod McLeod and Maurice McLeary of Queensland Maritime Museum Association.
